Description:
Tetracycline Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of Tetracycline. It is a broad-spectrum naphthacene antibiotic that inhibits amino acyl trna binding during protein synthesis. Tetracycline Hydrochloride is produced semisynthetically from chlortetracycline.
In bacteria, tetracycline blocks binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex, thereby Tetracycline Hcl inhibits protein synthesis and bacterial cell growth. Because naturally fluorescing Tetracycline Hcl binds to newly formed bone at the bone/osteoid interface, tetracycline-labeling of bone and fluorescence microscopy may be used to perform bone histomorphometry.
Tetracycline Hcl is usually given orally to treat mild-to-moderate infections due to susceptible microbial organisms.
NOTE: High doses of several forms of Tetracycline Hydrochloride given intravenously have been associated with acute fatty liver that can be severe and result in liver failure and death. Oral Tetracycline Hcl use has been rarely and not very convincingly linked to acute hepatic injury.
 Tetracycline Hydrochloride also inhibits the synthesis of proteins. The Mechanism of the action of inhibition is the interruption of peptide-chain elongation, the blocking the A site of ribosomes, the misreading of the genetic code or the prevention of the attachment of oligosaccharide side chains to glycoproteins.

Pharmacology:
